2008 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

PRESEASON QUIZ #5: May 28, 2008

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: First and 15 on A's 25. A14 takes the snap, runs toward the sideline, is hit and fumbles on A's 24. While the ball is loose, B99 grabs and holds A66 to keep A66 from recovering the ball. A88 picks up the ball on A's 22 and runs to A's 29 where he is downed in bounds.


2. PLAY: Third and 6 on B's 26. The score is A27-B28. A88 catches A14's legal forward pass and advances to B's 4 where he fumbles. B56 recovers the fumble in Team B's end zone while grounded. B96 roughed the passer. The game clock shows 0:02. Clock?


3. PLAY: Third and 10 on B's 15. A15's legal forward pass is complete to A88 for a touchdown. B97 roughs the passer, A15. Time expires in the third quarter during the down. Team A elects to take the penalty on the ensuing kickoff.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 15 on A's 5. The score is A16-B14. A6's punt is muffed by B66 on A's 12 and bounces back toward A's end zone where it hits the goal line pylon. During the down, A77 holds in A's end zone. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down. Team B accepts the penalty.


5. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 7. A9's field goal attempt is blocked, lands on B's 5 and takes a reverse bounce. B74 bats the ball backward on B's 8 and A59 picks up the ball in Team B's end zone.


6. PLAY: Third and 10 on B's 40. A16's legal forward pass is intercepted by B52 who advances to B's 20 where he is downed. B66 pushes A84 in the back on B's 25 during B52's run. A77 tackles B52 by pulling B52 to the ground by the face mask. Team B was offside at the snap. Team B wants the ball.


7. PLAY: Fourth and 7 on A's 5. The score is A28-B24. A4 muffs the snap in A's end zone. The ball is rolling in Team A's end zone when A4 kicks the ball. B44 muffs the ball on A's 12 and the ball rolls out of bounds on A's 15.
