Relief Sculpture is one of the most ancient art forms. The Assyrians, Egyptians and Greeks all used reliefs to decorate their palaces and temples.
Horses and equestrian subjects have long been a favorite of sculptors and their patrons. The frieze that surrounded the Parthenon in Athens showed a procession in Bas Relief of horsemen and charioteers.
The equestrian art, of award winning sculptor R. G. Meyer, captures the spirit and action of various equine activities and reflects the sculptors 45 years experience in the horse world, as rider, trainer and coach, working with cow ponies, event, dressage, polo and race horses. His original works have been faithfully reproduced in cold cast bronze.
In the past, bronze reliefs have been limited to use in public buildings and the homes of the wealthy. Now, modern materials and techniques allow this treasured art form to become available at modern prices.
Carefully prepared mixtures of sculptors resins, crushed stone, powdered bronze and pigments allow reliefs to be produced with the strength of stone and the warmth of bronze. The individually hand cast and burnished Bas Reliefs allow the warm glow of the bronze design to flow out and become an integral part of the river rock background. This process enables all pieces to express a unique individuality. The burnished bronze will over a period of time develop its own beautiful patina.
Care- All bronzes have been accented with black wax to enhance their detail. Occasionally, light polishing with very fine # 000 steel wool and highlighting with black wax may be needed. A shoe brush and nylon stocking work best for final polishing.
