![]() PALETTE MIXINGAll recipes for mixing colors are given in parts.
A part is as much as you want it to be, however, be consistent in your
parts to achieve correct color mixing. The Medium Value of each colour
is left without oil being mixed into it. The Light and Dark Values are
mixed with Refined Linseed Oil to a creamy consistency.
METHOD
OF PAINTING Every leaf and flower is double-stroked for layering.
The outer stroke is painted first, followed by another painted alike, but parallel. When
sideloading, remember to always fill the brush with the Medium Value you
are painting with and wipe out on paper towel before sideloading. This
method neutralizes the brush, removing the previous Dark or Light Value
from the brush. GOLD PETALS Dark Value: AC+BU+IB(1+1+1) Medium Value:CY+BS (1+
½) Light Value:NY+TW(1/4+1) 1.Paint
Medium Value Gold into the Petal, shade with Dark Value into the scroll. 2.Neutralize
and sideload with Light Value Gold. Stroke Light Value to the outside of
the Petal, add another stroke inside and parallel to the first. Continue
upwards until the Petal is closed. 3.Neutralize
and sideload with the Light Value. Stroke a “C” stroke inside the Petal
parallel, but in the opposite direction. 4.Neutralize
and sideloade with Dark Value. Place the brush down and pull a stem towards
yourself, reload and continue downwards. Decorate outer Petal with fancy
teardrops. Inside with double-coloured teardrops, Liner brush loaded with
light value, spin a fine point, drag point into Dark Value. The stroke
is made with a pull, press, and lift motion. SCROLLS & LEAVES MIXTURE Dark Value:CR+COG+BB(1/8+1
mix together, add 1 part BB) Medium Value:
CR+COG+YOP(1/8+1+4) Light Value:NY+TW(1/4+1) SCROLLS 1.Paint
Medium Value Green onto the Scroll. Sideload with Dark Value. Place the
brush under the knob and pull downwards. 2.Neutralize
and sideload with Light Value. From the root of the Scroll, paint to the
middle of the back and stop. 3. Wipe
and reload. Stroke a half-circle and inside, parallel. Re-sideload and
continue stroking into knob. 4.Finish
with a fancy teardrop from the center of the knob. Line the under-part
of the Scroll and decorate with teardrops. Liner-work is
painted with Light Value Green. LEAF 1.Paint
Medium Value Green into the Leaf and blend Dark Value into the flower Petal. 2.Sideload
with Dark Value and paint the outer portion of the Leaf. 3.Neutralize
and sideload with Light Value Green. Double-stroke the scallops on the
top of the Leaf. 4.With
Light Value and Liner, line under the Dark Value portion of the Leaf and
decorate with teardrops. CENTER (See
color illustrations) 2.Load
brush with Medium Value Green. Sideload with Light Value on one side and
Dark Value on the other. Turn the work and stroke a half-circle
stroke from the middle to the middle. 3.Reload
in the same manner. Turn your work and place your brush with Light Value
upwards into the finish of the first stroke, and
stroke a half “C” in the opposite direction. 4.Shows
a finished Center. Dark Value:AC+BU+IB(1+1+1) Medium Value:CR+COG(1+1/8) Light Value:CR+YOP+BU
(1+3+drop) 1.Paint
Medium Value Red into the Petal. Wipe the brush and sideload with Light
Value Red. Double-stroke the first portion of the Petal. 2.Wipe
your brush and re-sideload with Light Value Red. Double-stroke the Petal
to finish the light side. 3.Neutralize
and sideload with Dark Value. Double- stroke the dark portion of the Petal.
Poke the brush into Dark Value and stroke the
small “C” stroke. Wipe and re-sideload with a poke. Place the brush flat
down and pull into the root of the Petal. 4.With
your Liner and Dark Value, paint cross-hatching inside the dark portion
of the Petal. Clean the Liner with Light Value Red. Spin
the tip to a fine point and drag into the Dark Value. Paint double-coloured
teardrops inside the Petal. LETTERING
LINER=WORK & TEARDROPS All Liner-work
is painted with the Light Value Gold.. Teardrops are painted with a pull,
press, lift to the Liner with a thin point. Fancy Teardrops
are painted with a pull, press. lift and swing stroke to the Liner. Flat brush strokes
are painted with your flat neutralized brush sideloaded with either
Dark or Light Value. LAST STEP When your artwork is dry,
