THE GREAT VIRGINIA TO OREGON ADVENTURE 1997

BOTTOM BAR PAC98.gif (5171 bytes) My first bicycling adventure was way back in 1968 when some friends and I went on a thirty mile trip just for the hell of it.  I had a Raleigh 3 speed at the time and thought I was really cool.  The end of the day, however, saw me with a completely different attitude!!  And a very sore butt!!

Twenty nine years later I embarked on this 143 times longer journey, much wiser, with better equipment, considerably older, and seeking to fulfill one of many dreams.  And still got a sore butt out of the deal!!

Going through the pages on this portion of the web site you will be able to read my journals, look at the many photos, view a boatload of stats, and satisfy your curiosity concerning things .  You can also find a jumping off point for things like "Art" from the ROAD GODS; and a picture of my trusty steed, BETTY BOOP.

Want to see a picture of the motley crew (l-r: Hugh; Merle; me; Dennis; Dick; Kurt) that began this trip?  Go on!  Click on the link!!

This was my route and most of it came straight out of Bike Centennial's maps. You can visit their web site http://www.adv-cycling.org/ or you can write or call them at Adventure Cycling Association
