THE SWANSONG TRIP

Why such a title? Because it accurately reflects my current position on future long distance bicycle trips.

No, it wasn’t because of the scenery, or the traffic, or the moronic drivers, or the weather, or my riding companions. It’s because I realized my knees just can not take the kinds of rigors and abuses that hills put me through. Had the terrain been flat I may have come to a totally different conclusion. And then suffered greatly for it in my next adventure (at 46 I am not getting any younger!)

But I am beginning to feel vindicated in my decision to sacrifice material goods greatly (while I was working) in order to invest for the day I could retire and do those things I’ve always wanted to do before I got too old to do them.

So………..I am still happier than a pig in shit while in retirement and do not regret FOR A MINUTE my decision to bike both across country and down the Pacific coast. It’s just that now I need to find a different way of pursuing fun. Maybe that RV will become a reality after all!

Without further ado, let’s get on with the subject at hand----THE GREAT PACIFIC COAST BIKE TRIP!!
