Section A: Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Ethics shall be to maintain at all times a standard of excellence in the ownership, exhibiting, breeding and sales of the American Dutch Shepherd. Disreputable or uniformed breeders may, by improper practices, produce physically, mentally or temperamentally poor specimens to the detriment of the breed as a whole. It is for this reason that a Code of Ethics be subscribed to by those who are concerned with maintaining the excellence of the Dutch Shepherd Breed, and that measures be taken to acquaint the general public with the contents of the Code of Ethics, so they may not become partners in improper breeding procedures.
Section B: Records
I agree to maintain accurate records of stock, matings and pedigrees if I breed my bitch, use my male at stud or sell any puppies or adult Dutch Shepherds. I further agree to register with the American Dutch Shepherd Club prior to the time used for breeding.
Section C: Breeding
l. The emphasis shall be placed upon maintaining the working ability, temperament and other outstanding qualities of character of this breed. I agree to breed discriminatingly and understand and agree that to breed invisibly may lead to over-population and contribute materially to the deterioration of the Dutch Shepherd breed. I agree that only those Dutch Shepherds used for breeding which have A.D.S.C. "Breeding Stock" Pedigree, hips/elbows have been certified by the OFA, GDC, Penn Hip or MI-VCRS. I agree that I will not use any Dutch Shepherd for breeding which has the following faults, a. Monorchid (one testicle descended) b. Cryptorchid (neither testicle descended) All Dutch Shepherds registered must have a tattoo or microchip.
2, As owner of a bitch, I will only breed to healthy (disease-free) mature dogs that have certified hips/elbows and both testicles descended. As owner of the bitch, I will not permit my bitch to produce litters in three consecutive seasons.
4. As owner of the stud dog. I will use only healthy (disease-free), mature dogs that are hip/elbow certified & have both testicles descended. I will only breed my stud to healthy (disease-free), mature females that are hip/elbow certified. I will refuse stud service to any bitches of whose owners I have knowledge that they wholesale their litters or sell to pet shops or laboratories.
Section D: Health
1. I agree to maintain good standards of health and care for my Dutch Shepherds, including proper veterinary care. I agree to provide for my Dutch Shepherds, at all ages, regular contact with people and exposure to the outside world for proper socialization.
Section E: Sales
1. I will refuse to sell to dog wholesalers, retailers and brokers, or to recommend breeders who do not conform to the obligations expressed in this Code of Ethics.
2. I will use a sales contract or written agreement (for example, the A.D.S.C. sales contract or a variant thereof) with any sales purchase involving a Dutch Shepherd. The contract/written agreement will clearly state to the buyer of a puppy or adult Dutch Shepherd whether the sale is of potentially breedable, workable, or non workable (pet) dog.
3. I will not release puppies before the age my State Law requires, (and then only with the full knowledge that they are healthy and have had proper inoculations for their age. A Health Certificate (signed by a Certified Veterinarian) will accompany all puppies and adults sold.
4. I will supply registration papers for submittal to the American Dutch Shepherd Club. Registration may be withheld when specified in the contract/written agreement or non breedable registration papers be given with the puppy or adult.
5. I will urge the buyer to socialize their Dutch Shepherds, train and work with them and become members of the American Dutch Shepherd Club.
Section F: Advertising
I agree I agree that my advertising oral or written, shall be factual and not worded so as to attract undesirable buyers. I also agree that all advertisement shall include hip/elbow certification numbers, for adults over 2 years old.
Section G: Enforcement
I understand and agree that upon receipt of proof of violation of this code or Ethics, the Board of Directors will proceed in investigating and membership may be revoked. Effective July 1, 1997.

I would like to give a SPECIAL THANKS to Debbie Skinner of the Beauceron Club of America for sharing their Code of Ethics with the American Dutch Shepherd Club. Much of what is stated above is a Code already existing with the Beuacerons. Some things have been changed to fit the American Dutch Shepherd.
