Remember Galactic Civilizations?

Yea, I have finally purchased Galactic Civilizations. I'll be playing it intensively over the next week or so, and a review will no doubt follow soon after. To whet your appetite, here is a review for the game on Firing Squad.

Check out what Firing Squad said about GalCiv:

"The small marketing budget and low profile of the game may relegate it to being a moderate financial success, but anyone who passes this baby over will feel like those who missed System Shock or Master of Magic. Certainly these aren’t perfect games, but they are ground-breaking and will doubtless influence the games of the future."

DAMN. This game is deep! I am definitely loving the politics involved in this game. I have never even tried for a military victory. It just isn't as fun as spreading your culture throughout the galaxy until you are the most beloved race in existence. The game can be really daunting at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Really, the only obstacle is learning the complex interface. And getting over the fact that it is turn based... some don't appreciate that. Ack, I'd better stop talking about it here before I write a whole review. So I'll change the subject.

It's very nice indeed purchasing a game online. I simply entered my mom's credit card number, and clicked the download button. w00t indeed. By the next morning, I had some very excellent gamage sitting on my desktop, beckoning for me to play. And did it ever beckon.

*GASP* An Update!

If you like Quake III, and you enjoy kicking ass, check out http://www.urbanterror.net and download this totally kickass total conversion. It's like counterstrike for Quake III, but with more blood thrown in for good measure.

Archspace:

It took some prodding from Jason, but a new feature on Archspace is up! The wordage speaks for itself, go check it out in the Features section. P.S.: It looks like the Galactic Civilizations review will have to come later.

Various things:

Jason has contributed even more content! He is a hardworking individual who no doubt will bring fame to our corner of the web. Though not entirely gaming related, Jason's poetic works may reflect some feelings you have... even if they don't, they are fairly good and worth the time spent reading them. Catch them in Jason's new Gaming Dojo profile. Everybody thank Jason... he is keeping this site alive.

In other news, I have downloaded a program by the name of SmartFTP, which streamlines the site updating process. Every time an update like this rolls around, you know that a volley of updates are sure to follow. Enjoy it while you can!

Galactic Civilizations:

I recently played a demo residing on the current PC Gamer disc, called Galactic Civilizations. I mean to obtain a copy of full version as soon as possible, because it is a beautiful peice of gaming booty (if games had butts, that is). The deep diplomacy system, incredible AI (even on the "fool" difficulty level), the endlessly playable sandbox style skirmishes... I could go on, but I might flare up my asthma from the enthusiasm.

I think a review is in order for the game sooner or later...

Pontifex Review:

Jason is shooting for veteran status here, with his new review of Pontifex. Another solid effort, and another to be tallied among the growing library of Gaming Dojo reviews.

I can't wait for more... how about you people? I'm thinking Jason should write a Renegade review, since he plays it so often. Other suggestions: Diablo II, Half Life (kickin' it old-school)... anything else?

UPDATE: I've updated the review to include some Pontifex screenshots that Jason sent me. Enjoy.

Newcomer Reviewer:

Welcome the new guy! Jason's new review of Command and Conquer: Generals is an eloquent piece of writing which elucidates the game's new style. Anyone who enjoys writing that doesn't suck, read it. You'll find that author "Jayman Magic" isn't afraid to pull tricky moves in his writing. Confidence... I like that. Back to Top

Skies of Arcadia Review:

For the first time in over a year, a review has been written! This time, I rate and review Skies of Arcadia. Enjoy this new tidbit of content, because (as you might be accustomed) it is rare.

Gaming Dojo Community:

People... start some posting! If you are visiting this site and haven't posted on the message boards... please do so! Our community is painfully small at the present moment. We would love for someone to talk to other than me and Deadly[wolf].

My updating schedule:

Just so you don't expect for me to post daily like this every day, I need to inform all of you (the two of you [who am I kidding? I'm lucky if even one person visits.]) that I will only be updating on weekends. Why? Because I don't have an FTP anywhere else but my weekend "vacation" spot (vacation if you like beer drinking rednecks and stuffy neighbors). Without FTP, there is no update.

Blastin' alien scum under the GPL:

Duke Nukem has been made Open Source! What does this mean for Duke Nukem fans? Well, for one there'll be all kinds of cool modifications and ports, a la Doom. For example, there is a project porting Duke Nukem to Win32, meaning you won't have to open Duke from DOS anymore. Another project aims to put Duke on Linux, and after only four days there is a stable, working version. Other projects are attempting a truly 3D Duke Nukem 3D, by coding the graphics in OpenGL.

All very cool indeed.

Awesuma server powa!

Brand spankin' new server! My site is now located at http://www.atlantic.net/~waelder. I made the move because Geocities does not support FTP, so backing up, maintaining, and updating the site was a chore. Plus, there are no ads with Atlantic.net! Perhaps this will mean more updates for the site?

The world can only hope...
